Windy: Meditate to soothing wind noises – for free (today only)
29 February 2016, 06:00
We rarely recommend individual apps here on Mac Kung Fu but Windy caught us by surprise, and delighted us in equal measure.
On one level it’s a simple app that plays stereophonically recorded and mixed ambient wind and nature noises, in order to help you relax or meditate. Unlike similar apps, Windy sounds authentic and – in our estimation at least – it really does work in loosening some of those tight shoulder and neck muscles.
However, you’ll also see some lovely 3D vistas (try moving the iPhone/iPad around), and there’s a story revolving around the eponymous hero that links the many possible soundscapes together.
The app usually costs $2.99 but is free today (29th Feb) as part of the App Store’s Leap into Leap Year promotion, which includes several other amazing apps.
Get them while you can, and definitely grab Windy. It really is a gem and proof that a well-crafted app can be much more than what’s on the label.
