Weird Safari scrolling bug

18 January 2013, 13:26

I discovered an odd Safari scrolling bug today.

1. Visit a website.
2. Move over to the scroll bar, hold down Ctrl, and click the scroller. Don’t let go of Ctrl OR the mouse button! (If you’re using a trackpad you’ll have to tap two fingers on the pad to cause the scrollbar to appear.)
3. The right-click menu will appear but move the mouse cursor above the menu. Remember, don’t let go of Ctrl or the mouse button while doing so.
4. Release Ctrl and the mouse button. Move the mouse cursor up and down. The scroller will now be “stuck” to your mouse cursor and will move with it, as if you’re clicking and dragging. It can be unstuck by clicking anywhere.

This doesn’t seem to work in other apps. The bug is probably related to the fact that the right-click context menu shouldn’t be showing when you Ctrl-click the scrollbar in Safari. It doesn’t show in other apps, like Pages.

Let me know if this works for you!

Disagree? Tell me why...
