(It’s actually difficult to overemphasize the importance of Unix in driving take-up for OS X in the early days. Sites like the sadly-departed OS X Hints were started to share tips about getting the most from the Unix side of the operating system, and the Unix components drove many geeks to take-up Macs over PCs – and even to abandon Linux.
