Quickly access Notification Centre in El Capitan

… And while we’re on the subject of clicking and holding menu bar icons (see the below tip), in OS X El Capitan (and maybe earlier releases of OS X) you can cause the Notification Centre to appear for just a short period by clicking and holding its icon at the top right of the menu bar. It’ll appear for as long as you click, and then disappear when you release the mouse button.
In other words, there are two ways to activate the Notification Centre:
- Just click its icon in the usual way, and it’ll slide into view. Click the icon again, or click outside of the Notification Centre, to make it disappear.
- Click and hold the Notification Centre icon. The Notification Centre will slide into view for a quick look, and disappear again when you release the mouse button.
