Insanely cool home-made iPad Pro case

After reading “The best DIY Apple Pencil accessories and fixes” on Mac Kung Fu yesterday, reader John Willenborg got in touch to tell us about his home-made iPad Pro case that has a retro early Apple feel. The pics are below and John says:

I just love the vintage Apple stuff and thought I would try to retro my new iPad Pro. I used an adhesive pen holder from a Moleskin notebook to hold the Pencil.

For the design I used the genreal colors and layout of the original 1984 Macintosh. I had a soft spot in my heart for the rainbow logo (probably because it reminds me of my childhood) and tried to match the gray/yellowish plastics of the time. I created the design in Photoshop and laid it on an iPad Pro template from Decalgirl.com (any skin maker will do) to make the skin. My favorite part was creating the regulatory sticker on the back, most likely because I know Jony Ive would have a heart attack if he had to add a giant regalatory sticker to the back of his iPad.

The whole thing didn’t take long, and the hardest part is the skin application. It takes a little time and patience to get right.

John says that he’s happy to share the files with anybody who wants them (just email us and we’ll put you in touch) although he notes his use of the Apple logo means that this design could never be sold commercially. That’s a shame because if he put it on Etsy we reckon he could have himself a nice little business.
