Hide Mail previews

22 January 2013, 02:00

Gus was a nice guy compared to most of my colleagues, and often came to my desk to chat. However, although ostensibly engaging me in conversation, his eyes would drift to my screen. If I had my mail program open this could be very intrusive because he was clearly reading what was there. I don’t know to this day if Gus did this on purpose, of even if he knew he was doing it.

OS X’s Mail app shows a preview of the currently selected message at all times, so what do you do if you want to stop Mr Nosey reading it?

You could hit Command+H to hide the Mail app, but it might seem odd that you’re staring at your desktop every time Mr Nosey comes over. Instead, just hold down Command and click the currently selected message in the list. The preview will disappear, to be replaced by “No Message Selected”.

Disagree? Tell me why...
