Google Chrome now supported only on OS X Mavericks (10.9) and later

14 April 2016, 04:32

Google has followed through on the promise made late last year and dropped support for versions of OS X older than Mavericks (10.9) in the latest release of Chrome (version 50), that was released yesterday.

Last year Google stated the following:

Today, we’re announcing the end of Chrome’s support for Windows XP, as well as Windows Vista, and Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8, since these platforms are no longer actively supported by Microsoft and Apple. Starting April 2016, Chrome will continue to function on these platforms but will no longer receive updates and security fixes.

This means users of Mavericks or earlier releases of OS X now only have the option of Mozilla Firefox when it comes to mainstream browsers that are updated regularly with key security fixes. Firefox works on OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) or later.

Firefox is dropping support after the version released a few days ago (46) as well. No browser with future plans for Snow Leopard is currently available. :(
