Apple's new USB 3.0/Ethernet adapter: how to & video
25 March 2016, 12:16
Over at Pingie.com Dan Dorato’s got hold of one of the new Lightning-to-USB 3 adapters, and combined it with one of Apple’s exisiting USB-to-Ethernet adapters to get an iPad online sans Wi-Fi.
It takes a little effort, and a laundry list of items (including a power source), but might be worth it if the Wi-Fi where you are is patchy or – of course – non-existent. Click here to see a video of it in action.
All you need is:1. Apple Lightning to USB 3 adapter2. An iOS device running 9.3 or later3. An Apple USB to Ethernet adapter4. A Lightning Cable (For Charging) 5. A USB charger.
Since the USB to Ethernet adapter requires power it is necessary to use a power adapter otherwise you will get the dreaded “Not Enough Power” dialog box.
