How do I "print screen" (screenshot) on a Mac?
11 May 2020, 10:23

To create a screenshot in Microsoft Windows, users have traditionally done the following: Hit the Prt Scrn key to grab the screen to the clipboard, then open Microsoft Paint, and paste in the screenshot. Save it out as a file.
How to “print screen” on a Mac
If you want to do exactly the same as the above on a Mac, do the following:
- Hold down Shift + Cmd + Ctrl + 3. Yes, that’s quite a handful. You’ll hear a camera shutter sound.
- Open the Preview app, which you’ll find in the Applications list.
- Ignore the File Open dialog box, and click File > New From Clipboard (or tap the Cmd + N keys).
- Hey presto – a screenshot that you can then save out in any format by clicking File > Save.
But to be clear, it’s better to make use of the Mac’s superior screenshot facilities.
